Osgood-Schlatter Disease (OSD) is a common cause of knee pain in adolescents, particularly in those involved in sports that require running, jumping, and quick changes in direction. It is an overuse injury that causes inflammation and pain at the tibial tuberosity (the bony bump below the kneecap), where the patellar tendon attaches to the shinbone (tibia).
This condition occurs during growth spurts when bones, muscles, and tendons develop at different rates, leading to excessive stress at the patellar tendon attachment site. It is most common in children aged 10-15 and usually resolves once growth is complete.
