What is an MCL Tear?

The Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) is a strong band of tissue on the inner side of the knee that connects the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia). It helps stabilize the knee and prevent excessive inward movement.

An MCL tear occurs when the ligament is overstretched or torn due to trauma, often caused by a direct blow to the knee or a sudden twisting motion.
