Biceps Tear

Rehabilitation, Recovery, and Restoring Shoulder Strength

What is a Biceps Tear?

A biceps tear occurs when the tendon that connects the biceps muscle to the shoulder or elbow becomes damaged. The biceps muscle has two primary tendons—one that attaches at the shoulder (proximal tendon) and one that attaches at the elbow (distal tendon).

A tear in the biceps tendon, also known as a biceps tendon rupture, typically occurs due to trauma, repetitive strain, or degenerative changes associated with aging. Biceps tears can vary in severity, ranging from a partial tear of the tendon to a complete rupture. They can cause significant pain, weakness, and loss of function in the arm and shoulder, making everyday activities difficult to perform.
